Linn County, Iowa City landfills diverting old carpet
Someone actually wants the tired and tattered carpeting you’ve talked about replacing for years.
The Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency and the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center have begun diverting carpet from their landfills and shipping it to Heritage Environmental Services’ facility in Iowa City for processing and recycling.

Many Linn County residents are enjoying extra space after cleaning out their basements, garages and under their sinks to get rid of unwanted household hazardous materials.
The Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency took the Pollution Prevention Center on the road this spring and summer. Mobile collection events were held in many Linn County communities, and the result: thousands of pounds of household hazardous materials have been recycled or reused.
